  • Great outdoors or as a houseplant!

A small plant that makes a big statement, this Hypoestes phyllostachya will brighten a border or add color to container plantings. Grow this easy-care plant for its attractive pink and green foliage. It has an upright habit, with a height of 16-22 inches.

Hypoestes phyllostachya is native to Madagascar, so it doesn’t mind heat. It will survive in drought conditions with average watering. This is a bushy plant with oval, softly downy leaves. It is great in mass plantings in the border or as a filler in window boxes and patio containers.

Hippo Pink Polka Dot Plant Care

No deadheading or pruning is needed of this easy-to-tend plant. You can pinch it back if it becomes leggy. Plant it in average soil and provide an average amount of water. Its color is better when grown in partial shade rather than sun. Use a potting mix that is high in organic matter.

Hippo® Pink makes a great houseplant. Save them over the winter by potting up from the garden in late summer and keeping them in a bright window. You may want to use them as an accent plant in dish gardens. Because polka dot plants grow in the Madagascar rainforest, they will enjoy periodic misting indoors.

Hippo Pink Polka Dot Plant Spacing

Space them 6 inches apart in containers and 8-12 inches in the landscape. They have a spread of 8-14 inches.
