As its name implies, the Homemade Pickles Cucumber Plant is perfect for making pickles. As an heirloom variety, ‘Homemade Pickles’ has proved its reliability and is widely cultivated by home growers. It produces numerous small fruits that have a sweet and crisp taste and can be harvested when 2 to 6 inches long. With a compact, semi-bush habit, this cucumber is ideal for growing in containers or squeezing into the veg patch.

Homemade Pickles Cucumber Plant Care

Being a tender plant, this cucumber should only be planted out once the last frost has passed and the temperature has risen. It requires as much sun as it can get and is best grown in a fertile and free-draining soil. If growing in rows, Homemade Pickles should be spaced 12 inches apart to give them enough room to thrive.

Growing Homemade Pickles Cucumber Plant

The Homemade Pickles Cucumber Plant remains wonderfully manageable, as it grows to only 12 inches high. If growing from seed, sow the seeds indoors 3-4 weeks before the last frost and gradually harden them off before transplanting outside. If given the right conditions, these cucumbers can be harvested in around 65 days.

Being a compact plant, Homemade Pickles is ideal for growing in containers or planters. However, when container grown, more frequent watering is required to prevent the soil from drying out.

Watering Homemade Pickles Cucumber Plant

For encouraging continuous fruits, it is important to keep the soil evenly moist. During the summer months, this may mean watering daily to prevent the plants from becoming parched.

Feeding Homemade Pickles Cucumber Plant

To maximize yields and help prevent disease, cucumbers should be fertilized once they have been planted out. A liquid vegetable or tomato feed can be applied every two weeks once the flowers begin to appear.
