Hot Paper Lantern Pepper is a high-yielding, Habanero-style pepper. Lovely fire-red, elongated, lantern-shaped fruits are 4” long and mature in 70-90 days. Hot Paper Lantern Pepper matures much earlier than other Habanero plants because it has a shorter growing season, making it ideal for Northern gardeners. Tropical, sweet, smokey, habanero-type peppers pack some serious heat at 150,000 - 400,000 Scoville Heat Units.

Hot Paper Lantern Peppers mature from green to orange, and when fully mature, they are orange/red. This compact plant can easily be grown in containers. The peppers are fantastic when used fresh in spicy salsas or when roasting, grilling, sauteing, pickling, or used in your favorite recipe.

Hot Paper Lantern Pepper Plant Care

Plant Hot Paper Lantern outdoors when all danger of frost has passed and soil temperatures have reached above 60 degrees F–peppers thrive in hot growing conditions.

Space Hot Paper Lantern Pepper plant at least 2 ft away from other plants to give it ample room to grow, and receive sunlight and air circulation. Plant in well-amended soil rich in organic matter such as garden compost in a location that gets at least 6-8 hours of direct sun daily. Deadheading this pepper plant is not necessary.

Growing Hot Paper Lantern Pepper Plant

The fruit matures in 70-90 days after planting outdoors. Hot Paper Lantern Pepper reaches 24-36 inches tall with a spread of 24 inches wide, so allow plenty of space for airflow to circulate between plants to avoid any foliage issues. Water the soil and avoid watering overhead; focus on watering the plant's roots versus watering the foliage.

Hot Paper Lantern Pepper is well suited to be grown in containers. Provide an ample-sized pot at least 18 inches in diameter. This will allow you to grow this plant in a garden where space is at a premium and allow flexible placement options. Place the container in full sun on a deck, balcony, or anywhere your pepper plant will receive at least 6 or more hours of direct sunlight. When grown in containers, they will need frequent watering, especially during the hottest summer months.

Watering Hot Paper Lantern Pepper Plant

Provide infrequent but deep watering and water your Hot Paper Lantern Pepper plant when the top two inches of soil become dry. Avoid overhead watering, which can encourage foliar disease.

Feeding Hot Paper Lantern Pepper Plant

Apply a well-balanced organic liquid vegetable fertilizer once the pepper plants begin to set fruit and continue twice a month during the growing season to give a nutrient boost.
