When winter is still whispering, Ice N' Roses® Red is already in full voice—unfurling deep, wine-red blooms on sturdy, upright stems while most beds are asleep. Evergreen, leathery foliage keeps the planting fresh year-round, and the long blooming window (late winter into spring) bridges the color gap between bulbs and early perennials with elegant, weatherproof flowers.
Ice N' Roses® Red Hellebore Care
Plant in partial shade—morning sun with afternoon shade is ideal; bright open shade also works well. Set in fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soil; avoid waterlogged spots. Keep moisture even the first season, then water during extended dry spells. A 2–3" layer of leaf mold or compost each spring maintains soil structure and feeds slowly.
In late winter, clip away last year’s tattered leaves before buds open to spotlight the flowers and improve airflow. After bloom, deadhead if you want a tidier look. Light, balanced feeding in early spring is enough—hellebores resent heavy fertilization and frequent disturbance.
Generally deer and rabbit resistant; hardy around USDA Zones 5–9. Note: sap may irritate skin and all parts are considered toxic if ingested—site with care.
Ice N' Roses® Red Hellebore Spacing
For a lush, ground-covering drift, plant 18–24 inches apart on center. In mixed shade borders, allow 18 inches from neighboring perennials and shrubs so the evergreen clumps can mature gracefully.
In containers, use one plant per 12–14" pot with excellent drainage and place planters 18–24 inches apart for easy viewing and maintenance.
