For a showstopper in your garden nothing beats the ‘Apricot Shades’ tuberous begonia! (Begonia-x-tuberhybrida) The Illumination series is just that, it lights up your garden in those shady spots where everything just seems to be green. Blooming all summer long until frost, ‘Apricot Shades' will delight you with its shimmering blossoms and bright green foliage. This plant will fill a hanging basket with tons of blooms or in a container to set beside a chair. The flowers are the size of roses so you can truly appreciate them.
This is an ideal plant for containers or hanging baskets growing just 4-8 inches high and trails up to 24 inches. Growing in part shade to shade is ideal. It can be mixed with other shade lovers in a container as well but it will always be the stand out in the container.
Illumination® Apricot Shades Begonia Care
Growing it in a container or hanging basket with drainage is desired using a quality potting mix, not garden soil. Fertilize with a quality slow release fertilizer when planting and water as necessary. No pruning or deadheading is required for this plant.
‘Apricot Shades’ will bloom from planting until frost. It is hardy from Zone 9a-11b.
Illumination® Apricot Shades Begonia Spacing
When planting ‘Illumination’ begonias in containers, 3 plants in a 12 inch hanging basket will give it ample room to grow and flowers and allow for good air circulation which helps prevent diseases such as powdery mildew. In a container the same spacing would apply unless you are using a larger container so you could add a couple of more plants as well.
