Impatiens New Guinea Infinity Red (Impatiens hawkeri) is perfect color for your full to partially shaded areas. Flowers are large and showy, standing out from the dark green, glossy foliage. The flowers are so large that they almost cover the foliage, and plants stay in constant bloom from spring until first frost. This is a heat tolerant annual growing well in zones 10-11. This easy care, mounding, upright plant is a great addition to the landscape and can be enjoyed in both containers and hanging baskets.
Infinity red has a mounding, upright form making it an excellent choice for containers as a filler when planted in mixed pots. In the landscape, utilize Infinity red as a border or edging plant, in mass plantings, in mixed containers and for hanging baskets. Infinity red is a pollinator attractor, attracting both bees and butterflies. It has no major disease or pest issues.
Infinity® Red Impatiens Care
Impatiens New Guinea Infinity Red is a no fuss, easy to care for plant with little to no maintenance requirements. Infinity red does not require deadheading, but can benefit from a late summer trim to encourage a new flush of blooms. Growing well in plant hardiness zones 10-11, Infinity red shines in partial shade but does not perform well in poorly drained soils. Growing up to 10 – 14 inches in height and spreading up to 12 inches, Infinity red can be used as a border or edging plant in the landscape. It is not fussy about soil type and has a moderate water use, unless temperatures are too high and there has been little to no rain. A yearly application of fertilizer or compost on garden beds and regular liquid fertilizer of potted plants will keep plants looking great year-round.
Grown as an herbaceous annual in zones 10-11 Infinity red can live through mild winters and carry on with continuous blooms. Plants grown in containers should get partial sun for best performance and for maximum bloom yields. Infinity red can be grown on patios and porches with four or more hours of afternoon sun, and may do well indoors in high light areas.
Infinity® Red Impatiens Spacing
Plant 6 – 8 inches apart in containers and hanging baskets. For garden beds and grown in mass, plants should be spaced approximately 8 - 10 inches apart. When grown in mass or used as a bedding plant, individual plants should be spaced approximately 10 inches apart.
