The Infinity® Salmon Impatiens is a wonderful annual plant for adding some color to shaded areas. It blooms non-stop from spring until winter and produces an abundance of coral-salmon flowers with little fuss. It is not just the flowers of the Impatiens hawkeri that are attractive, as its pointed, dark green leaves are striking in their own right. With a mounding habit, the Infinity® Salmon Impatiens remains compact and is a versatile plant for any garden.
This annual is easy to grow and will continue to bloom even without deadheading. Perfect for bedding in beds and borders, the Infinity® Salmon Impatiens is also ideal for growing in a container or hanging basket. Even though it thrives in shade, it can also tolerate the heat and if wilted, will often bounce back with a thorough watering. Also known as the New Guinea Impatiens, there’s no prize for guessing where this stunning annual hails from.
Infinity® Salmon Impatiens Care
The Infinity® Salmon Impatiens thrives when grown in partial to full shade. However, it can cope with more sun if watered more frequently. It prefers moist, but free-draining soil and benefits from a slow-release or liquid fertilizer to keep it flowering all season long. Even though this plant does not need deadheading, you can shorten any leggy stems with a pair of clean and sharp scissors to promote more bushy growth. Regular watering is required to keep the soil moist, and mulching around the base of the plant will help prevent moisture loss during the summer months.
New Guinea Impatiens tend to be grown as annuals. However, they are perennial in zones 10 to 11. In colder areas, plants can be brought to a bright spot indoors to overwinter.
Infinity® Salmon Impatiens Spacing
The Infinity® Salmon Impatiens grows to 10 to 14 inches high and around 6 to 8 inches wide. When planting in a group, a spacing of 6 to 8 inches between plants will provide a solid block of color when they bloom.
