The large white flowers of the Irish Crème Azalea will truly brighten up any garden when they bloom in spring. Also known as Rhododendron 'Irish Crème', this ornate Azalea develops large white flowers with a green-yellow center that almost completely covers its dark green foliage when it blooms. Growing to around 3 to 5 feet tall, the Irish Crème Azalea is a versatile shrub with many garden uses.
Being an evergreen, the foliage of the Irish Crème Azalea stands well throughout the winter in USDA zones 6 to 10. With a mound-forming habit, it is easy to care for and will attract butterflies and hummingbirds when the blooms open in spring. Add it to a mixed border or create a low-growing, flowering hedge to define a property line.
Irish Crème Azalea Care
The Irish Crème Azalea is happiest when it is grown in either filtered or dappled shade. It prefers an acidic soil that is fertile, moist and well drained. Irrigate regularly after planting and until established to keep the soil moist but not saturated. To give it a boost you can apply an ericaceous fertilizer after the blooms have finished.
Its shape and size can be maintained by gently pruning after the flowers fade. Applying an annual mulch of organic matter in spring will help reduce moisture loss and weed growth.

When mature, the Irish Crème Azalea can reach 3 to 5 feet tall and wide. If planting en masse, space this azalea around 4 to 6 feet apart depending on the desired effect.
