Italian Parsley is one of the most widely grown herbs and for good reason. This herb develops large and flat green leaves that can be used either dried or fresh for a wide range of dishes. Also known as Petroselinum crispum Italian, Italian Parsley can be grown both in the garden or in a container. It is easy to grow and care for.
Italian Parsley Care
The Italian Parsley grows best when it is given full sun, either outdoors or on a window sill. Growing to around 2 feet tall and wide, you will want to give it space to thrive. Picking leaves frequently throughout the year will encourage new growth to emerge.
Growing Italian Parsley
To promote the healthiest and most abundant foliage, plant Italian Parsley in full sun with a minimum of 6 hours of sunlight per day. One of the best ways of growing it is in a container by the kitchen window so you can harvest its leaves when you need them. As a biennial herb, it is often treated as an annual and left to self-seed.
When growing Italian Parsley in a container, choose a pot around 8 to 12 inches in diameter and at least 6 inches deep. Plant it in a free-draining and fertile compost mix for best performance.
Watering Italian Parsley
Parsley requires regular watering to prevent it from drying out and bolting. When watering parsley, aim to keep the soil on the moist side, but not soggy.
Feeding Italian Parsley
Fertilizing parsley will help keep it productive over the season. When grown in a container, parsley benefits from a balanced liquid feed every 4 to 6 weeks.
