Best Locations For Growing Japanese Black Pine Tree Bonsai Plant
This is a great addition to the kitchen, entryway or bedroom, as long as it gets enough direct sunlight. You can also keep it on a patio or in the garden—this plant is tolerant of heat up to 100 degrees F, as well as wind and drought. This plant is not toxic, so you do not have to worry about keeping it out of reach of your pets and children.
Japanese Black Pine Tree Bonsai Plant Sunlight Requirements
The Japanese Black Pine Tree Bonsai prefers direct sunlight. Aim for at least 6-8 hours of bright direct light per day. South-facing windows are ideal because they receive the most direct light each day.
Japanese Black Pine Tree Bonsai Plant Care
Your local climate will dictate the potting schedule of your bonsai. These trees like having their roots rearranged when repotting. After re-potting, your bonsai needs to be placed in a shady location for three to four weeks. This bonsai can grow in a variety of soil conditions including bare mineral soil, sandy soil, volcanic ash, calcareous soil or limestone soil, but it grows best in loose, fertile, well-drained, slightly acidic soil.
This particular bonsai is susceptible to spider mites. Inspect your tree weekly for specks of red on the needles. This is an indication of spider mites.
You will need to do significant pruning between late fall and early winter to prevent or minimize sap bleeding. After you cut, apply putty cut paste to the edges of each exposed wound. To avoid stress to the plant, place it in shade for about a month after pruning.
Watering Japanese Black Pine Tree Bonsai Plant
This tree can tolerate mild drought, but it will do better when kept slightly moist. Provide good drainage to minimize the potential for root rot.
Feeding Japanese Black Pine Tree Bonsai Plant
Your Japanese Black Pine Tree Bonsai does not need to be fertilized. However, you can give it BioGold Bonsai Fertilizer or something similar between the middle of spring and early fall.
