The Croton Gold Dust, or Croton petra ‘Joseph’s Coat’, is a striking plant with bright, multi-colored foliage. It has dark-green leaves contrasting with bright-yellow venation and spotting. This plant needs high humidity and bright light to thrive. This plant is sure to light up any room with its unique and attractive foliage.
Best Locations For Growing Joseph's Coat Croton
For this plant, provide it with ample light and good humidity. Choose a location in your house that has a window facing south, if possible. Otherwise, an east- or west-facing window would be fine. A location up away from pets and children is best since this plant can be toxic if ingested, and the sap is an irritant.
Joseph's Coat Croton Sunlight Requirements
In order to grow a healthy Croton plant, provide it with plenty of bright sunlight. Leaf color is more vibrant when it gets ample light. Two or three feet away from a south-facing window is ideal. Consider keeping the humidity high around your Croton by misting daily, or by providing a humidity tray.
Joseph's Coat Croton Care
Crotons are naturally bushy in shape and shouldn’t need pruning. Check if this plant needs repotting in the spring, ensuring that you move to a pot only one size larger. Use a peat-based soil blend such as African violet potting mix.
Watering Joseph's Coat Croton
This plant requires fairly moist soil. If it receives too little water, the leaves will begin to drop. Water it when the top inch of soil is dry, about once a week. Keep your Croton moist during spring and summer, and reduce watering during winter.
Feeding Joseph's Coat Croton
Feed this plant every two to three weeks during the growing season (early spring through summer) with a balanced liquid or water-soluble fertilizer at normal strength. In winter when growth typically slows, there’s little need for fertilizer.
