Strong lemon-and-raspberry fragrance wafts from large, domed coral-pink blooms, making Jubilee Celebration English Shrub Rose truly unforgettable. Rosa ‘AUShunter’ produces very full, cupped flowers held above the foliage so the color shows from across the garden. Mature size is a balanced 4 feet tall and 4 feet wide, with graceful arching growth that looks elegant even when it isn’t in peak bloom. Many fragrant roses sacrifice bloom quantity, but this one flowers freely in repeat flushes through the season.
Introduced by David Austin in 2002, this variety was named to commemorate Her Majesty The Queen’s Golden Jubilee. Blooms open salmon-coral with warm golden tones tucked under the petals, then deepen as the flower domes up. The shrub is bushy and well-branched, making it useful as a specimen, a small flowering screen, or repeated in a border for rhythm. We like it near outdoor seating, because one open bloom can perfume the immediate area. Flowers cut well for vases and keep their rounded form.
Jubilee Celebration® English Shrub Rose Care
Grow in full sun for the best flowering and strongest fragrance. It adapts to most soil types, but performs best in fertile soil that drains well, with a slightly acidic to neutral pH of 6.0–7.0. Plant at the same depth it was growing in the pot and firm the soil so the plant doesn’t shift in wind. Water slowly and deeply so moisture reaches the root zone, then rewater when the soil begins to dry several inches down. Feed in early spring with a rose fertilizer, then give a second application after the first major flush to keep repeat bloom strong.
Prune in late winter to shape and remove weak or crossing stems, keeping the center open. Deadhead after each flush to encourage faster rebloom and a tidier look. In colder areas, mulch around the base after the ground freezes to protect the crown. Provide good air circulation to help foliage stay clean.
Jubilee Celebration® English Shrub Rose Spacing
Space plants about 4 feet apart for individual shrubs, or 3 feet apart if you’re building a low hedge. For containers, choose a pot at least 20 inches wide and deep for long-term growth. Pair it with Russian sage, annual verbena, and blue oat grass to highlight the coral-pink blooms with cool, airy contrast.
Why It’s Called That
Jubilee Celebration®
This rose was named to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
