Are you looking for super tasty greens packed with nutrients and fiber? Look no further! Kale Storm Mixed Kale will ravish your tastebuds and brighten your garden with its many varieties of kale, all in one plant start! This kale offers a tornado of varied verdant green, blue, and purple colors with incredibly crisp tastes and textures. Kale Storm Mixed Kale can be eaten fresh, sauteed, stewed, steamed, or even as part of a delicious smoothie! Just snip leaves off the plants from the outer base, working inwards once the leaves have reached about 6-8 inches in length, and leave the heart of the plant to continue growing all season long. This plant is also shade tolerant, cold tolerant, bolt resistant, and low maintenance!
Kale Storm Mixed Kale Care
Plant this kale in early spring in an area that receives full sun, ideally in loamy, well-drained soil with a pH of 6.5. This variety will tolerate less-rich soils, which might ultimately affect the flavor. If you are planting seeds, make holes a quarter-inch deep, spaced 12-14 inches apart so the plants can reach their mature size. Make sure to weed the beds thoroughly, as the weeds will compete with the kale plants for nutrients.
Growing Kale Storm Mixed Kale
Growing to full maturity in just 21 to 35 days, this kale could be on your plate in under a month! Once established, mulch the base of the stem to conserve moisture, keep the plant cool, and protect the root structure, which is just under the ground. Unlike some other leafy greens, frost is this kale's best friend and is known to enrich its flavor.
This delightfully diverse mix can be grown in various ways! It can be planted directly in the ground, cultivated hydroponically, or grown in containers or raised beds. If grown in a container, plant this mix 4-6 weeks before the last frost date in an area that receives 8 hours of direct sunlight daily. Container kale can dry out faster than kale planted in the ground, so monitor its moisture.
Watering Kale Storm Mixed Kale
Water kale plants well and deeply whenever the soil dries out; kale is a very thirsty plant! If you are unsure if your plant needs water, test the soil by sticking your finger in the top layer, and if the ground feels dry, water it.
Feeding Kale Storm Mixed Kale
Fertilize kale plants every two weeks with a nitrogen-rich fertilizer to keep their growth steady and robust.
