Growing Zones
The Kimono Hydrangea is a small shrub that has a big style. Large clusters of pure white flowers with wine-red margins bloom from mid-spring to late summer. Flowers rebloom throughout the growing season for a steady push of blooms. Dark green glossy foliage complements the beautiful flowers and gradually fades into a purple hue by the fall. The Kimono Hydrangea is a beautiful plant that requires little care, making it a wonderful choice for busy gardeners.
Plant this perennial in beds or borders. At 2 to 3 feet tall and wide, this small, rounded shrub is also a good fit for a container. Trim the showy flowers to use in arrangements for a bright burst of color indoors. This shrub is a perennial in USDA zones 5 through 8.
Kimono Hydrangea Care
This cultivar prefers low light and requires partial shade. A spot that receives 3 to 4 hours of sunlight each day is the best. Use rich, well-drained soil that is moist and acidic. Water this plant weekly or when the top layer of soil dries out.
Trim damaged growth and shape the plant in the fall, after the blooms fade. Apply a balanced fertilizer in the spring or test the soil and opt to use an acidic fertilizer if the soil pH is high.
Kimono Hydrangea Spacing
At 2 to 3 feet tall and wide, the Kimono Hydrangea has a naturally rounded shape. Space plants 2 to 3 feet apart to create a full planting.
