La Campanella Fuchsia (Fuchsia hybrid 'La Campanella') introduces cascades of pink and purple flowers from early summer to late in the season. It typically grows 12 to 18 inches tall and displays trailing stems that flow gracefully over hanging baskets or containers. The two-toned blooms attract hummingbirds and lend a dramatic effect wherever they are planted. This variety provides abundant flower production and dependable performance in partially shaded areas.
Native to tropical and subtropical regions of the Americas, fuchsia plants handle cooler climates as long as they’re protected from harsh frost. Deer usually avoid the foliage, and common pests rarely inflict major damage. Use it to brighten up shady corners, create an eye-catching accent in window boxes, or line a walkway with color. In mild climates, La Campanella Fuchsia remains semi-evergreen, offering year-round interest.
La Campanella Fuchsia Care
Choose a location with full sun to partial shade, and plant in rich, well-draining soil. Keep the soil evenly moist, taking care not to let it become overly soggy, and fertilize every two weeks with a balanced formulation. Aim for a pH near 6.0 to 7.0 to keep the roots functioning well. Regular watering is especially important on hot days, as the delicate blooms and foliage can wilt without adequate moisture.
Deadheading encourages continued blooms, and trimming any weak or damaged stems helps maintain a neat appearance. Pinching or thinning is not typically required unless you want to shape the plant slightly in spring. In colder regions, protect the roots by bringing container-grown specimens indoors or discard the plant as an annual. If overwintering indoors, reduce watering and keep the plant in a bright, cool spot to prevent rot and leggy growth.
La Campanella Fuchsia Spacing
Allow about 12 to 18 inches between plants in mass plantings or borders, so each fuchsia can spread its trailing branches. A single plant in a container benefits from a pot at least 12 inches wide to accommodate healthy root growth. For mixed arrangements, opt for a slightly larger container to give La Campanella Fuchsia enough room alongside companion plants.
