Laguna Royale Lilac Lobelia is a compact, rounded lobelia with a haze of lilac-purple blooms from spring through first frost. Lobelia erinus ‘Balspringlav’ grows 8–12 inches tall and spreads 10–12 inches wide, forming a neat mound that fills small containers and crisp edging lines quickly. It stays dense and proportional, so window boxes and path edges look finished with fewer plants. Lilac-purple is also a smart mixer color, softening bright palettes and cooling down hot tones.

This lobelia keeps blooming from planting to frost and cleans itself, so you’re not stuck picking spent flowers. Bees and butterflies find it, especially when it’s used in groups. Heat tolerance is stronger than older lobelia types, which helps it keep going deeper into summer. Use it along sunny pathways, in rock and crevice gardens, or as a low border in front of taller annuals. It also shines in hanging baskets, where the mound effect adds fullness near the rim.

Laguna Royale Lilac Lobelia Care

Grow Lobelia erinus ‘Balspringlav’ in part sun to sun, with 4–6+ hours of direct light for the most flowers. Use a porous, well-drained soil and aim for a pH around 6.0–7.0. Plant so the crown sits level with the soil surface, then water to settle everything in place. Keep moisture moderate, but don’t keep the root zone constantly wet—allow the surface to dry before watering again. Feed on a regular schedule through the growing season to maintain bloom density, especially in containers.

If flowering slows during a stretch of very warm nights, shear the plant lightly to refresh the canopy and trigger new branching. It will green up quickly and set buds again once temperatures ease.

Laguna Royale Lilac Lobelia Spacing

Space plants 6–8 inches apart for a full, continuous edge. For containers, three plants fill a 10–12 inch pot, while five to seven plants make a full 14–16 inch bowl or window box. We use this lobelia frequently in our spring-to-fall pots paired with verbena, angelonia, and licorice plant.
