Lobelia Laguna® White (Lobelia erinus) is a high performance annual for both garden and container use. Laguna’s dainty white flowers on delicate green foliage provide continuous blooms from spring until the first frost. Its mounding, compact form reaches heights of up to 12 inches and a spread up to 24 inches. Laguna White honey-scented flowers attract both butterflies and other pollinators to bring added beauty to your garden.
Laguna has a compact, mounding, trailing form making it an excellent choice for container growth as a filler or as a spiller when planted at the edges of mixed pots. It’s trailing habit makes this plant a perfect selection for hanging baskets. In the landscape, utilize Laguna in mass plantings, for borders, in mixed containers and for hanging baskets. It is somewhat tolerant of urban pollution with no real disease or pest issues. This plant and other lobelia are also deer resistant, which means that deer prefer other plants to these.
Laguna White Lobelia Care
Lobelia Laguna® White is a no fuss, easy care, lobelia with little to no maintenance requirements. Laguna White is a self-pruning lobelia and does not require deadheading, but does benefit from a late summer trim to encourage a new flush of fall blooms. Growing well in plant hardiness zones 9-11, Laguna shines in full to partial sun. Laguna does not perform well in poorly drained soils and is considered a medium water use plant. It is not fussy about soil type or pH and it is said to tolerate hotter temperatures. It can have a reduced bloom capacity if night temperatures stay in the upper 70’s or higher. A yearly application of fertilizer or compost on garden beds and regular liquid fertilizer of potted plants will keep plants looking great year-round.
Grown as an herbaceous annual in zones 9-11 Laguna White can live through mild winters and continue on with continuous blooms. Plants grown in containers should get adequate sun for best performance and for maximum bloom yields. Laguna White can be grown on patios and porches, but will not do well indoors.
Laguna White Lobelia Spacing
Plant 6 – 10 inches apart in containers and hanging baskets. For garden beds and grown in mass, plants should be spaced approximately 18 - 20 inches apart. When grown in mass or used as a bedding plant, individual plants should be spaced approximately 20 inches apart.
