Lemon Lime Prayer Plant is an excellent plant for beginners who feel confident stepping up their houseplant gardening game. This tropical foliage plant has striking markings along its veins and ribs and looks impressive in any setting. Maranta leuconeura ‘Lemon Lime’ will close its leaves like praying hands during the evening and unfold the following day completely. The leaves may also fold slightly in colder or drafty spots.
Best Locations For Growing Lemon Lime Prayer Plant
Prayer Plants come from the jungles of South America, where they are low-growing understory plants. Warmth and humidity are key to keeping them thriving. A shelf in a kitchen or bathroom is ideal. The Prayer plant looks great in either a regular pot or a hanging basket.
Lemon Lime Prayer Plant Sunlight Requirements
Indirect and filtered light are best for Prayer plants. The bright direct exposure of a south-facing window is too strong and will bleach or burn the leaves. Hanging Prayer Plant in a north-facing window will provide the lower-light levels this plant needs for deeply colored foliage. East-facing windows are acceptable as long as the plant is kept away from drafty windows and doors.
Lemon Lime Prayer Plant Care
Prayer Plants like to have greenhouse conditions that include high humidity and warmth. Prayer plants are also easily overwatered–the number one reason they get root rot and collapse. Use a rich potting soil that is also very well draining. Peat-based potting mixes with added perlite will provide the proper air circulation for the roots. Room temperatures below 65 degrees F will cause the plant to close up its leaves and eventually drop them. Humidity needs to remain constant at a level of about 50%.
Watering Lemon Lime Prayer Plant
Watering must be consistent and often during the growing season of spring and summer. Water when the top inch of soil dries. Avoid getting the leaves wet or allowing the plant to stand in water. Humidity from a portable humidifier or a nearby pebble tray is recommended over daily misting of the leaves. The leaves are delicate and do not tolerate excess moisture, and are easily marked by minerals and salts in tap water.
Feeding Lemon Lime Prayer Plant
Fertilize Prayer Plant once a month with a liquid formulation. Apply the fertilizer at half the manufacturer's recommended amount. Look for a balanced houseplant feed that has an NPK ratio of 10-10-10.
