Lemon Meringue Pothos is a delightful addition to any houseplant collection. This plant features large, dense foliage with bright yellow and green variegation. Lemon Meringue is a sport of the more common Epipremnum aureum and demonstrates stable and consistent coloring. The leaves of Lemon Meringue tend to be larger than those of the species plant, especially when the plant is trained vertically on a moss pole or trellis.
Best Locations for Growing Lemon Meringue Pothos
Pothos is often seen gracefully rambling over a shelf or the top of a bookcase. Keeping it pruned can encourage dense, compact growth, making it suitable for decorating a low shelf, tabletop, or desk. Pothos can grow in any room in the house, provided the light levels are suitable. This plant is not particular about humidity, although it thrives in the higher humidity levels typically found in bathrooms and kitchens. Pothos is considered mildly toxic, so it should be kept out of reach of pets and children.
Lemon Meringue Pothos Sunlight Requirements
Indirect or filtered bright light is essential to maintain the stunning yellow variegation of this Pothos. Lower light levels are also acceptable. East or north-facing windows are ideal, as they protect the plant from intense light during the hottest part of the day, which could bleach or scorch the leaves.
Lemon Meringue Pothos Care
Grow Pothos in a mix of all-purpose indoor potting soil and orchid bark, combined at a ratio of 1:1. This mixture maintains air exchange around the roots and enhances the moisture-holding capacity of the potting mix.Over time, the plant can reach 6 feet or more. Repot Pothos when roots appear at the bottom of the container, only increasing the pot diameter by one or two sizes.
Watering Lemon Meringue Pothos
Water weekly during the main growing season, from April through September. Allow the potting mix to dry slightly between waterings, and be sure to drain any excess water from the saucer or cache pot. While Pothos does not require high humidity to grow well, it benefits from humidity levels in the 60-80% range. Daily misting with distilled water or a cool mist humidifier can offset low humidity levels during the winter.
Feeding Lemon Meringue Pothos
Use a balanced liquid fertilizer to support healthy foliage growth and vibrant color. Look for an all-purpose formulation for houseplants and apply it once a month from April to August.
