With its changing flower color and light musky scent, Lichfield Angel is a stunning shrub rose. Bred in the UK by David Austin, the Lichfield Angel Rose produces pale peachy buds that open to form fragrant, creamy-white, domed blooms. As a strong, repeat bloomer, this rose will flower all season long. Growing to around 3 to 4 feet tall, Lichfield Angel is a versatile rose that is suitable for many gardens.
The Lichfield Angel Rose develops an almost thornless structure and an upright and rounded form. The classic creamy blooms contrast perfectly against its dark green foliage and look equally impressive when cut for a vase. This English shrub rose is ideal for growing in a large container, dotting a border, or for forming a low hedge.
Lichfield Angel Rose Care
This David Austin rose performs best in full sun; however, it will also tolerate some partial shade. As with all roses, Lichfield Angel prefers to be grown in rich and fertile soil that is free draining. Regular watering is key for the first growing season, after which, a weekly but thorough irrigation is generally about right. To help maintain plant health and to encourage more blooms, a rose-specific fertilizer can be applied during the growing season as per the manufacturer’s instructions.
For repeat blooms, any faded flowers should be regularly deadheaded. In late winter, remove any dead, diseased or crossing branches and reduce the remaining framework by up to one-third. To help prevent disease, any pruning tools should be sanitized and sharpened before use.
Lichfield Angel Rose Spacing
When fully grown, the Lichfield Angel Rose can reach 3-4 feet high and 2-3 feet wide. Providing good air circulation and planting at a spacing of 3 to 3.5 feet apart will help defend against any disease.
