Lil Forest™ Plum Bachelor Button (Gomphrena hybrid 'SAKGOM004') displays clusters of plum-toned flower heads from early summer until frost. At about 12 to 18 inches tall, it delivers lasting color in gardens or patio containers. These globe-shaped blooms withstand heat and humidity with ease, offering a steady display throughout the warm season. This selection distinguishes itself with a compact habit and reliable production of new flower heads.
Lil Forest™ Plum has a subtle fragrance that often goes unnoticed. The upright shape remains manageable without frequent intervention, and deer rarely bother the foliage. It originates from regions where moderate drought does not hinder its progress once established. Include it in mass plantings, border designs, or decorative pots for seasonal color. It also functions well in erosion control projects and pollinator-friendly landscapes.
Lil Forest™ Plum Bachelor Button Care
Plant in sunny conditions with well-draining soil, and water consistently during the first few weeks to promote root development. A balanced fertilizer every few weeks helps sustain blooms, while a slightly acidic to neutral pH generally supports healthy growth. We recommend watering regularly until roots are established, and then providing deep soaks during dry spells to enhance performance. Avoid waterlogged conditions, as excessive moisture may lead to root issues.
Light pruning or pinching spent flower heads encourages prolonged color display. Remove yellowed or damaged foliage to maintain a neat appearance, but heavy trimming is rarely needed. In colder areas, protect container-grown specimens by moving them indoors or placing them in a sheltered spot before freezing weather arrives. Keep an eye on soil moisture levels when overwintering indoors, and reduce watering to prevent rot.
Lil Forest™ Plum Bachelor Button Spacing
Space individual plants 8 to 10 inches apart for row plantings or mass groupings, which allows each plant to reach its mature spread. A single plant in a mixed border should have at least 8 inches of open space on all sides. A container about 8 to 10 inches wide is sufficient for a young plant, with larger pots accommodating future root expansion or companion varieties.
