Loved for its scented foliage, the Lime Scented Geranium Plant is a treat to grow. Producing edible, toothed, green leaves that when crushed give off a lovely lime aroma, its foliage is a great addition to desserts and teas. Mainly grown for its smell and taste, the Pelargonium nervosum 'Lime' as it is botanically called also displays elegant, white-and-pink blooms in summer. Often reaching no more than 2 feet high, it is ideal for a container.
Being tender, this geranium can be overwintered indoors or reproduced from cuttings. It can be grown in garden beds, but is perhaps more commonly grown in a container to make it easily accessible to use and enjoy. With its compact form, this Lime Scented Geranium Plant looks stunning when grown as a table decoration in a terracotta pot.
Lime Scented Geranium Plant Care
This Lime Scented Geranium Plant is best grown in full sun and in fertile, free-draining soil. It prefers to be kept moist, but hates its roots to sit in waterlogged soil, so watering is only advisable when the top inch of soil is dry. To promote blooming, a high-potash, liquid feed can be applied during the summer months. As a tender plant, it is advisable to gradually harden this plant off before placing outside, but only once all risk of frost has passed.
To use its leaves, they can simply be pinched or cut off as required. Regular deadheading can help encourage the flowers to keep blooming all summer long. If grown in the ground, plants should be lifted and brought indoors to overwinter.
Lime Scented Geranium Plant Spacing
Growing to 12 to 24 inches tall and wide, this Lime Scented Geranium can be spaced around 18-24 inches apart if planted out in a group. When container-grown, drainage holes must be present to avoid its roots sitting in water.
