Feature
The Little Hope Philodendron, or Philodendron selloum as it can also be known, has rather confusingly been renamed as a Thaumatophyllum, but thankfully is often referred to as Little Hope. With split leaves and serrated edges that are green and glossy, this Little Hope Philodendron has a distinctive look. A forgiving houseplant, the Little Hope Philodendron is ideal for growing on a table or shelf due to its compact size.
Best Locations For Growing Little Hope Philodendron
Little Hope is tolerant of most conditions and can be grown in any room. However, this plant is considered toxic and care must be taken if growing it around children or pets.
Little Hope Philodendron Sunlight Requirements
For vigorous growth, this plant prefers to be grown in bright indirect light. It can tolerate lower light levels, but growth may be slower.
Little Hope Philodendron Care
Preferring a warm place, the Little Hope Philodendron grows best within a temperature range of 65 to 80 °F and away from any cold and drafty spots. Humidity-wise, this philodendron can cope with most indoor rooms, although to help it thrive, regular misting is advisable. If any leaves begin to die back or become overly leggy, they can be removed at the base of the stem using a clean and sharp pair of scissors or snips.
Watering Little Hope Philodendron
The Little Hope Philodendron likes to be grown in a free-draining and moist, but not overly wet soil. Since this plant is sensitive to overwatering, err on the drier side and only water when the top layer of soil has begun to dry out. To prevent soggy roots, allow the water to drain away from the pot fully after watering; then place the plant back in its decorative container.
Feeding Little Hope Philodendron
To encourage lush foliage, Little Hope can be fed every 4 to 6 weeks during the growing season with a general houseplant fertilizer. To avoid the roots being overfed, it is recommended to dilute the fertilizer to half the recommended strength of the manufacturer.
