The Little Jewel Succulent is a darling plant that provides uniquely colored foliage. Thick, cylindrical leaves taper to a point and grow in a rosette formation. The foliage has an ombre effect, with a purple hue at the bottom that transitions into a powdery blue and finally, bright green at the tips. The colors become more saturated with age, giving the leaves a jewel-tone look. Formally known as Pachyveria glauca, this member of the succulent family is easy to grow and prefers a slight degree of neglect.
Best Locations For Growing Little Jewel Succulent
The Little Jewel Succulent is a good size for a nightstand, end table, or desk. A spot where you can get up close and admire the colorful foliage is a good fit. Otherwise, choose a sunny, dry place, and this succulent will thrive.
Little Jewel Succulent Sunlight Requirements
This adorable succulent needs bright to medium sunlight. Increased sunlight helps the plant develop rich coloration. The Little Jewel Succulent can handle direct sunlight but in limited quantities. Bright direct morning sunlight and indirect afternoon light are a good combination.
Little Jewel Succulent Care
Mature plants may bloom small, pinkish-white flowers in the spring. The flowers can be removed as soon as they fade so that the plant can redirect energy into new growth.
Watering Little Jewel Succulent
Like most succulents, the Little Jewel Succulent has low water needs. The plant stores water in the thick leaves, so it is naturally drought-tolerant. Allow the soil to dry out completely before giving this plant water. Dry, arid conditions are best.
Feeding Little Jewel Succulent
While Little Jewel is not a heavy feeder, giving this plant some extra nutrition will help it push out new growth and look its best. Use a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer annually in the spring.
