Although Lantana camara is a hardy perennial for USDA zones above 9, it is also a fabulous summer annual plant for the rest of the United States. The natural mounded shape is perfect for filling up space and adding a shot of bright, fresh color to a planter or hanging basket. Grow it on slopes and naturalized garden areas to attract and feed local pollinators. Deer are not likely to browse lantana, and very few pests and diseases are a problem. Lantana is fabulously tolerant of drought, heat, humidity, and salt air.

Lucky™ Lemon Glow Lantana Care

Lantanas are great for growing in the hottest parts of the garden. They thrive in full sun and moderate to poor soils. Once established in the garden, Lantana is very drought tolerant and resistant to most pests and diseases. Regular deadheading of spent flower clusters will not only encourage more blooms but also help to keep the stems from getting leggy. Lucky™ Lemon Glow is not prone to forming berries and seeds like other varieties and continues to flower for weeks with no need to cut it back hard.

Container-grown Lantana requires a regular feeding schedule through the growing season to replace nutrients lost through repeated waterings. A diluted liquid fertilizer with a higher ratio of P (phosphorus) and K (potassium) to N (nitrogen) supports heavy blooming and root formation. Look for an NPK ratio of 1-3-2, which is often found in products marketed for growing tomatoes or roses. Lantana grown as a perennial in the garden will benefit from twice-yearly feedings with a slow-release, granular fertilizer with the same NPK ratio.

Lucky™ Lemon Glow Lantana Spacing

Lantana is great to tuck into empty spots in the late-season garden or replace spent annuals in mixed seasonal containers. The overall width is a compact 12-16 inches. Space garden-grown plants 10-12 inches apart for a dense groundcover effect. Three or more plants will comfortably grow in a 14-inch hanging basket.
