Lantana plants are known for being vigorous bloomers that require minimal care. The Luscious® Citron™ Lantana is a fast-growing, prolific bloomer that is tough and will start blooming in the spring, last through the summer, and late into the fall. This plant is a tender perennial, which grows as a perennial in USDA zones 9, 10, and 11. In these zones, the plant can grow as a flowering shrub. In other zones, Lantana is grown as an annual, and the plant will often last until the first hard frost. The tiny flowers grow in bunches and pack a serious punch of intense yellow color.
Textured green leaves are broad at the base and come to a point and frame the flower clusters. Lantana is versatile and can be used in containers, landscape planting, borders, or mass plantings. This mounded filler is native to Central and South America, and it is heat-tolerant, so it can easily handle hot summer temperatures. If all of this weren’t enough, the Luscious® Citron™ Lantana resists deer but draws in all kinds of pollinators, including bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.
Luscious® Citron™ Lantana Plant Care
Plant Lantana in a spot that receives plenty of sunlight. This light-loving plant can handle 6 or more hours of sunlight exposure daily. Lantana has average water needs, and new plants will need water when the top several inches of the soil is dry. Established plants may not need water unless there is a drought or extended dry spell. Lantana can handle low-quality soil, but opting for a rich soil amended with organic material and a pH of 6.0 - 6.5 will help the plant grow and push out more flowers. Midsummer fertilization will keep plants in the ground healthy, and regular fertilization every 2 to 4 weeks will allow plants in pots to flourish.
Lantana is a durable plant that generally does not need much care. Trim back growth if the plant appears scraggly or growth appears to slow down. Pruning the plant will encourage more branching and flowers.
Luscious® Citron™ Lantana Plant Spacing
The Luscious® Citron™ Lantana can be 23 to 30 inches tall, making it a good plant for the back of beds or a statement plant in a container. This plant typically spreads out 20 to 30 inches, and ground plantings should be spaced 18 to 24 inches apart. Based on the large size, 1 plant is enough to fill out a container.
