Looking for a summer powerhouse? Luscious Grape Lantana delivers wave after wave of grape clusters of flowers despite heat and drought. The medium purple flowers sport white eyes which light up the plant from within. Long-blooming Luscious Grape grows in a tight mound packed with blooms that will be a superhero in the hottest spot, whether as a groundcover in the garden or as a featured “spiller” in a sunny container. Yes, but does it need deadheading? Nope.
This award-winning, fuss-free lantana brings butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds in droves to your garden all season. In fact, Real Simple Magazine named it a “Top 10 Goofproof Plant.” It grows about 14 inches high and up to 36 inches wide, either in a container or in the landscape.
Luscious® Grape Lantana Care
Lantanas are like that longtime friend who never asks you to help them move or drive them to the airport. They don’t ask for much: they’ll tolerate even poor soil and drought conditions, but of course average soil and water is preferable for ideal growth. Pruning is really only needed for shaping or encouraging fuller growth and can be done at any time. If you live in a place where Lantanas can be perennial, from zones 9-11, they become full shrubs and can take a harder pruning in early spring after the last frost date. If you notice a slowing of flowering at midsummer, apply some liquid fertilizer.
Elsewhere, when growing in the ground, applying compost on top of the crown at planting should be enough fertilizer. Containers will need regular feeding, either a controlled-release fertilizer at planting or repeat applications of liquid fertilizer for best flowering.
Note: Lantanas can be toxic if ingested.
Luscious® Grape Lantana Spacing
You’ll want to budget about 36 inches of space between plants for Luscious Grape to really get comfortable.
