Malvern Hills English Shrub Rose is one of the few true ramblers that repeat flowers, producing waves of fully double soft yellow clusters from spring to fall. The small, 40-petaled rosettes open buttery yellow and soften toward cream, often carrying both shades at once. The effect is light and abundant rather than heavy, with a gentle musky fragrance that drifts as you pass. This is an ideal climber to train over an arch where every flush can be enjoyed up close.
Strong, slender canes reach up to 15 feet with support, yet Rosa ‘AUScanary’ remains refined thanks to polished foliage and relatively few thorns. It flowers in generous clusters from late spring and then returns in waves through summer into fall. Growth is vigorous and adaptable, making it suitable for pergolas, tall fences, or even rambling along a bank. Health is reliable, and the overall look is airy rather than dense.
Malvern Hills Rose Care
Choose a site with at least six hours of direct light; a bit of afternoon shade is tolerated in hotter regions. Provide sturdy support from the start and guide new shoots outward to create a broad, flowering framework. During the first season, water thoroughly when the soil several inches down feels dry, encouraging deep roots rather than frequent shallow watering. Apply a balanced rose fertilizer in early spring and again after a major bloom cycle to sustain repeat flowering.
Prune in late winter by removing older, less productive canes at the base and shortening side shoots to maintain structure. After each flush, lightly tidy spent clusters to prompt the next round. In colder climates, secure long canes before winter winds and mulch around the base once the ground cools.
Malvern Hills Rose Spacing
Allow 6–8 feet of horizontal space when training against a wall or fence. For arches or pergolas, give each plant room to spread and weave naturally. Underplant with catmint for a cool blue contrast or pair with foxglove to echo its cottage character without competing for height.
