For a high-yielding paste tomato that produces delicious Roma-type fruits, look no further than the Mariana Paste Tomato Plant. With its thick-walled, 4-5-oz fruits and excellent flavor, this tomato is ideal for saucing, canning and freezing for the winter months ahead. With a stocky determinate habit, this tomato holds its fruits well and produces an impressive harvest. With the right conditions, you could be harvesting within 74 days after planting.
Mariana Paste Tomato Plant Care
The Mariana Paste Tomato Plant is best planted in a sunny and sheltered spot where it will receive as much sun as possible. As a tender edible, this plant should only be planted out once all risk of frost has passed and the temperatures are reliably above 65°F. To help prevent disease and to encourage easy picking, plants should be spaced at a distance of 2 to 3 feet apart.
Growing Mariana Paste Tomato Plant
With enough sunlight and warmth, Mariana can grow to around 3 feet tall and 2 feet wide and can yield fruits in around 74 days. This tomato is suitable for growing outdoors or in a greenhouse or polytunnel. When grown from seed, sowing can commence indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost is expected.
Due to its compact form, the Mariana Paste Tomato is perfectly suitable for growing in a container. However, more frequent watering will be required than for those grown directly in the soil.
Watering Mariana Paste Tomato Plant
Tomato plants thrive when grown in a soil that is kept consistently moist, but not overly wet. During the height of the summer, this may mean watering plants daily, especially for pot-grown specimens.
Feeding Mariana Paste Tomato Plant
For the best flavor and heaviest yields, a fertile soil and regular fertilization is recommended. A granular or liquid tomato-specific fertilizer should be applied as per the manufacturer’s instructions.
