Growing Zones
Turn up the warmth in beds, borders, and containers with Marmalade Coral Bells. Ruffled leaves swirl through shades of amber, caramel, and copper, with rosy undersides that glow in morning or evening light. The tidy mounds add four-season color in many climates, staying evergreen in zones 6+. It’s an easy, compact perennial that pairs beautifully with hostas, ferns, and deep purple heucheras for contrast.
Heuchera ‘Marmalade’ is a vigorous, mounding perennial that performs in both sun and shade, with the best leaf color and substance in evenly moist soil. In late spring into early summer, it sends up airy stems of tiny flowers that add movement and bring in hummingbirds and beneficial pollinators. Use it to brighten dark evergreens, soften the base of boulders, or repeat it as a warm-toned edging in a more formal bed. In mild winters it can keep foliage longer, while colder regions see it die back and return from the crown.
Marmalade Coral Bells Care
Give Marmalade Coral Bells part shade in hot-summer climates, or full sun where summers are milder and you can keep moisture consistent. Plant in enriched, well-drained soil, and keep the crown right at soil level, never buried. A slightly acidic to neutral soil is a comfortable pH range.
Water regularly during the first growing season. Later, water when the top couple inches dry, since Marmalade prefers evenly moist over soggy conditions. Feed lightly through the growing season, especially in containers, but avoid heavy fertilizer that can spur weak growth. In winter, the main risk is excess moisture around the crown, so make sure mulch stays off the center.
In early spring, remove old leaves to make room for fresh growth and tidy the plant. Deadhead the flower stems after bloom if you want the plant to stay foliage-forward. If you notice heaving in winter, a light mulch after the ground freezes helps stabilize the crown.
Marmalade Coral Bells Spacing
Space plants about 16–18 inches apart so the mounds can meet without crowding. For containers, a 12–14 inch pot works for a single plant, or use a wider bowl to combine it with shade companions. Good choices include begonias and hellebore for a shade-side grouping that stays attractive when summer flowers taper off. In the landscape, pair Marmalade with astilbe and painted fern for a layered, moisture-friendly woodland look that plays off the warm leaves.
