For cheering yellow blooms you will be hard-pressed to beat the Marvel™ Yellow African Marigold. Tagetes erecta 'Marvel Yellow' as it is also known is an easy-to-grow annual that develops large bright yellow flowers from planting until the first frost. Growing to only 18 inches tall, this uplifting annual is suitable for many garden applications.
Being both deer and rabbit resistant means that the Marvel™ Yellow African Marigold is suitable for both rural and urban locations. Furthermore, it is heat tolerant and needs little ongoing care once established. Strong and sturdy stems keep the flowers from flopping, and an upright habit helps the flowers shine against contrasting green foliage. These marigolds are ideal for planting at the front of a border or in a container.
Marvel™ Yellow African Marigold Care
As a true sun lover, the Marvel™ Yellow African Marigold performs best in full sun. It will tolerate most soil types as long as they drain well, as it will struggle in an overly wet substrate. Fertilizing with a liquid feed every two weeks will encourage new buds to form. Apply water to the base of the plant, and allow the top inch or two of soil to dry out between waterings. Deadheading regularly will help keep a neat appearance and encourage new flowers to form.
Being tender, the Marvel™ Yellow African Marigold will die back after the first frost and is grown as an annual in zones below 9.
Marvel™ Yellow African Marigold Spacing
The Marvel™ Yellow African Marigold can reach a final size of 16 to 18 inches tall and 10 to 12 inches wide. For a block of color, you can plant this African Marigold at a spacing of 8 to 10 inches apart.
