With its deep green and burgundy leaves, Miss Milly Begonia is a pop of color in a low-maintenance package. This flowering houseplant produces petite salmon blooms amongst its jagged, feathery leaves, perched on plump fuzzy branches. The leaves of Miss Milly Begonia stand out within plant clusters, adding texture and color to the usual green foliage found indoors. Place Miss Milly in a bright spot as an accent in a living room, bedroom, or kitchen window. Begonias are toxic plants, so take care when placing them in a home with children and pets. 

Miss Milly Begonia Sunlight Requirements

Miss Milly Begonias will thrive when located in bright, indirect light, protected from intense afternoon sunlight. Place this plant in an east- or north-facing window, or a few feet away from a south- or west-facing window. If Begonias are kept in lower light levels, their stems will become leggy as they stretch toward a light source, losing their full appearance. Too much direct light may result in the leaves becoming sunburned, losing their color, and then eventually drying up. 

Miss Milly Begonia Care

Miss Milly Begonias thrive in average household temperatures and humidity. In drier months, provide Begonias with supplemental humidity, either from a pebble tray or humidifier. Avoid wetting the leaves when misting or watering, however, as these plants are prone to powdery mildew and other leaf infections. Begonias like to be root-bound, so repotting is only necessary when Miss Milly has outgrown its pot in a year or two. 

Watering Miss Milly Begonia

Begonias prefer soil that is moist but not soggy. Allow the top 50% of the soil to dry before watering deeply, until water comes out the bottom of the pot. Do not allow the soil to dry out completely as this will lead to flower loss and dry, crispy leaf edges. Because Begonias will wilt when they are both overly wet and drying out, it is important to feel the soil prior to watering to avoid oversaturating the roots. Always plant begonias in well-draining soil and in a pot with drainage holes.

Feeding Miss Milly Begonia

Begonias will appreciate regular fertilizing in the spring and summer when plants are growing the most. Liquid indoor plant fertilizer can be added to water once a month during this time. Take care not to wet the foliage in the process. Fertilizing in the winter is not necessary, as plants are not growing as actively and therefore need fewer nutrients.
