Misty Seas is a ready-made ocean of color that launches in spring and keeps rolling through first frost. It pairs Supertunia Mini Vista Indigo’s deep blue tones with Violet Star’s playful purple-and-white pinwheels and the cool foam of Mini Vista White. Each petunia forms a tight six- to twelve-inch mound before trailing up to two feet, so the trio quickly covers a basket rim or cascades down a patio urn. Blooms renew themselves without deadheading, and the subtle fragrance drifts in warm evening air to welcome visiting pollinators. Plant this 12-inch recipe once and enjoy a nonstop wave of indigo, lavender, and snow-white flowers all summer.
These petunias share the same vigorous, mounded-then-spilling habit, creating a balanced dome that never looks lopsided. Butterflies and hummingbirds pause for nectar, while heat, light rain, and common garden diseases do little to slow the show. Although it was designed to fill a hanging basket, the combination doubles as a flowering groundcover in sunny beds where drainage is good. In regions with intense afternoon sun, a touch of midday shade keeps the colors rich.
Misty Seas Combination Care
Fill a 12-inch container with a peat-based potting mix that drains fast, then stagger two plugs of each variety around the rim so young shoots angle outward. Water thoroughly after planting and keep the soil evenly moist—daily in midsummer heat—allowing excess to escape through drainage holes. Work a slow-release fertilizer into the mix at planting and follow with a water-soluble bloom booster every other week to support the petunias’ heavy feeding needs. Should stems become leggy in mid-season, shear the entire planting back by one-third and feed; fresh growth and flowers will return within ten days.
In frost-free zones 10–11 the plants may overwinter outdoors, though bloom slows in cooler months; elsewhere treat the recipe as an annual or move containers into a bright, frost-free sunroom to extend flowering a few extra weeks. Indoors, thin the foliage lightly for better air flow and water just enough to prevent dryness.
Misty Seas Spacing
This six-pack fills one standard 12-inch basket perfectly; use a 14- to 16-inch pot if you prefer a looser, more cascading look. For ground beds, space plugs 12 inches apart in a triangle pattern so the mounds join without crowding, covering roughly one square foot per plant by midsummer.
