Molineux® English Shrub Rose opens with a hint of warm orange, then quickly settles into a clear, saturated yellow that lights up borders without looking harsh. The medium rosettes are densely packed with an impressive 110–120 petals, giving each bloom a plush, structured look. A light-to-medium Tea fragrance with a musky note adds appeal up close. Its growth stays compact, upright, and even, maturing around 4 feet tall and 3 feet wide. We recommend Molineux® for gardeners seeking a true yellow David Austin rose that fits neatly into a bed or a large pot.
Introduced by David Austin in 1994, Rosa ‘AUSmol’ is known for flowering with exceptional freedom and continuity. The plant’s tidy form makes it useful for low hedging, mixed borders, and container displays near seating areas. It handles full sun well and also performs in partial shade. Blooms are excellent for cutting, and the shrub’s overall habit keeps it looking composed between flushes.
Molineux® English Shrub Rose Care
Provide full sun for best flowering, though morning sun with filtered afternoon shade is beneficial in hot climates. Plant in soil that holds moisture yet drains well, aiming for a pH of 5.5–6.5. Work compost into the planting area to improve structure and support steady growth. Water at the base when the top few inches begin to dry, increasing frequency during extended heat. Feed in early spring with a rose-specific fertilizer, then reapply after the first wave of blooms to maintain vigor.
Prune in late winter to shape the shrub and remove thin or damaged stems. Deadhead regularly to speed repeat flowering. In colder regions, protect the crown with a light mulch layer after the ground freezes, especially for container plants. If a late spring freeze threatens new growth, cover the shrub overnight to prevent tip damage.
Molineux® English Shrub Rose Spacing
Space plants about 3 feet apart for a low hedge, or 4 feet apart for individual specimen shrubs. For containers, use a pot at least 20 inches wide with excellent drainage. Plant it alongside blue star (amsonia), lamb’s ear, and hardy iris to accentuate the rose’s warm yellow while adding contrasting texture and form.
Why It’s Called That
