Feature
The Montana Air Plant, or Tillandsia montana as it is also known, is a stunning air plant with dense pointed foliage. Growing without soil and producing a pink-purple inflorescence and tiny blue flowers, this air plant is great for showing off in a terrarium or attached to a decorative rock or piece of wood. Being tropical, the Montana Air Plant must be kept warm.
Best Locations For Growing Montana Air Plant
The Montana Air Plant will thrive in any room as long as it is kept warm enough and is not placed in strong direct light. Being such an unusual and decorative plant, you’ll want to display the Montana Air Plant where it can be appreciated.
Montana Air Plant Sunlight Requirements
The Montana Air Plant requires bright, but indirect sunlight. Placement near an east- or west-facing window is ideal. However, avoid placing it near a south-facing window that receives strong midday sun.
Montana Air Plant Care
The Montana Air Plant requires a warm environment, away from cold drafts, and thrives at a temperature of 60 - 90 °F. Used to good airflow in its natural habitat, this air plant also requires good ventilation to remain healthy. The pruning requirements are minimal; any brown, dead or broken leaves can simply be removed using a pair of clean and sharp scissors to make a slanted cut.
Watering Montana Air Plant
During the growing season, the Montana Air Plant needs submerging once or twice a week in room-temperature rainwater for up to 30 minutes. After submerging, the air plant must be allowed to dry completely on some paper towels, as any standing water can lead to rotting. In between watering, misting is recommended to increase humidity levels and prevent the plant from drying out. Where possible, avoid using tap water, which may contain harmful chemical compounds.
Feeding Montana Air Plant
Although not required, feeding your Montana Air Plant can help promote blooming. Using Bromeliad or Tillandsia fertilizers as per their instructions is advisable, as over-fertilizing can cause harm to the foliage and plant.
