Pet Safe

This unique fern has large, crinkled leaves with elegant venation. The light-green, spoon-shaped fronds grow upright from a central rosette. The Nidus Bird’s Nest Fern, sometimes simply called Bird’s Nest Fern, comes from the tropical regions of Asia and Africa. This plant is great for homes with kids and pets as it is nontoxic.

Best Locations For Growing Nidus Bird’s Nest Fern

The Nidus Bird’s Nest Fern is the perfect plant to have in your bathroom near a tub or shower where it will receive plenty of warmth and humidity. Ensure that the plant gets placed near a light source so that it’s able to thrive. This plant is a slow grower, making it perfect for people who don’t have the space for a large plant.

Nidus Bird’s Nest Fern Sunlight Requirements

In order for this plant to thrive, provide it with plenty of indirect sunlight. In nature, this plant receives filtered, indirect light. Place it near an east- or north-facing window.

Nidus Bird’s Nest Fern Care

These ferns prefer a peat-based potting mix rich in organic matter. The soil should be well draining. You’ll know it’s time to repot your plant when it has become very large and overgrown in its current pot. This is only necessary every two to three years since they typically grow slowly. Select a clay pot one size larger than its current container, and use a nutrient-rich, fast-draining soil blend.

Watering Nidus Bird’s Nest Fern

This Bird’s Nest Fern needs a regular schedule of watering to keep its soil evenly moist. Water when the top inch of soil is dry. Try not to get the center of the rosette or the fronds wet since it could encourage mold growth.

Feeding Nidus Bird’s Nest Fern

Apply a balanced fertilizer at half-strength once a month April through September.
