There is nothing quite like the peppery taste and pop of color that Nasturtium provides to a bowl of mixed greens. The flavor of Nasturtiums is often compared to the mild spice of a radish or watercress. With a combination of deep burgundy and buttercup yellow blooms, the Night and Day Nasturtium is a beautiful, pollinator-attracting addition to an herb or vegetable garden. This unique edible plant grows in a mound 10-12 inches tall and 12-15 inches wide, making it suitable for container gardening. Nasturtiums blooms are ready to harvest anywhere between 35 to 52 days after germination. Deer tend to avoid these peppery plants as well.
Night and Day Nasturtium Plant Care
Nasturtium can be planted in a garden once temperatures are consistently above 60°F. Plant the Night and Day Nasturtium in average-to-moist, well-draining soil in part to full sun. This fast-growing plant should be given at least 12 inches of space to spread. Remove flowers as needed to consume or to prevent the plant from going to seed.
Growing Night and Day Nasturtium Plant
Night and Day Nasturtium is tolerant of dry soils and easy to care for. Nasturtium blooms consistently through the summer, providing both you and pollinators with a long-lasting snack.
Night and Day Nasturtium stays compact as it grows, making it ideal for container gardening. With its unique light green leaves and stunning blooms, this edible plant can even be used as a colorful ‘filler’ in a planter. Choose a large pot with drainage holes when planting in a container.
Watering Night and Day Nasturtium Plant
Nasturtiums are tolerant of drying out, though they will grow best when watered regularly. Allow the soil to dry out slightly in between waterings and then water deeply.
Feeding Night and Day Nasturtium Plant
Nasturtium is not a particularly heavy feeder and even grows well in poor soil. When fertilizing, choose a fertilizer that is higher in phosphorus and lower in nitrogen to encourage blooms rather than green growth.
