Hunting for an edible herb that adds fragrance and color to your yard and home? Foraging for flavors of citrus and mint to add to your food? If so, Orange Mint Plant, bred by Sara's Superb Herbs®, is your perfect choice. Throughout summer and fall, this vigorous perennial’s emerald leaves, etched in plum and accompanied by pale violet flowers and lemony fragrance, provides interest to both the eyes and nose. The foliage from Orange Mint Plant, otherwise known as Mentha aquatica 'Citrata', Mentha piperita citrata, Aquatic Mint, Bergamot Mint, Eau de Cologne Mint, and Water Mint, will enhance many delectable dishes and drinks to include desserts and teas served hot or cold. By freezing or drying the flavorful leaves, you can have the taste of mint and citrus all winter long.

Orange Mint Plant Care

To control its vigorous, mounding growth, it’s best to grow Orange Mint Plant, like many other mint cultivars, in a container. If growing this low maintenance perennial outside, choose a spot that gets full sun to partial shade, and plant during the spring after the last frost date. Space plants 3 feet apart if planted en masse, and ensure that the surrounding soil is rich, acidic/neutral, moist, and drains well.  Since Orange Mint Plant adores moisture, give it 1 to 2 inches of water per week, and to encourage another round of flavorful leaves after flowering, cut the foliage back to about two inches just after blooming.

Growing Orange Mint Plant

Preferring partial shade but tolerating full sun, Orange Mint Plant can be harvested two months after being planted in spring. You can control its spread by planting it in a container. This vigorous favorite of bees and butterflies reaches a maximum height of 12 to 36 inches and width of 3 to 4 feet. If provided adequate soil, light, and water, this lightly perfumed herb thrives inside as well as outside.

Serving as a sensational filler plant, Orange Mint Plant provides a consistent background of color and fragrance to enhance companion specimens in borders and containers. If growing in a container, start out with a 10-inch pot and repot this vigorous grower annually, splitting the plant into two and planting each in a new pot. If maintained in a container, however, the need to water will be more frequent.

Watering Orange Mint Plant

Provide this water lover with 1 to 2 inches of water per week.  If grown inside, the need to water may be more frequent.

Feeding Orange Mint Plant

Feed Orange Mint Plant a balanced fertilizer once during the spring. If your soil still lacks proper nutrients, you can continue to fertilize monthly throughout the remainder of the growing season.

Plant Addicts Warranty - 1 Year (Extra Purchase Required)

We encourage all plant lovers to purchase the Plant Addicts Warranty, whether you're a new gardener or an expert. There are many variables outside of anyone's control that can cause a plant to die. Hungry animals, drought, poor soil conditions, over watering, diseases & pests are all good examples of what can cause plants to die. The Plant Addicts Warranty is a 1 year warranty protecting you from all of the unknowns and will replace your plant if something were to happen to it.

The warranty is purchased on a per plant basis and must be purchased at the same time as the plant(s). We will cover 100% of the price of the plant, but the warranty does not cover shipping costs. SImply let us know if your plant has died within 1 year of receiving it and we will get you a new one shipped out as soon as possible (depending on the time of the year and availability). We may ask for photos for documentation purposes, but we try to make the process as easy as possible.

Guarantee and Warranty

Plant Shipping

Below are some factors we consider when determining when to ship the plants depending on the timing of the order.

Winter to Early Spring

We ship only when it's warm enough to plant in your growing zone.
Sometimes plants aren't completely ready to sell and ship in early spring. We will wait until the plants are ready before shipping so you don't get a subpar product.
For Southern plants we will be able to ship much earlier than plants coming from our northern nursery.

Summer

If there is extreme heat we may delay shipping for a week or several weeks.
We review what areas the plants are traveling through as well as your location.

Fall into Winter

We’ll ship plants out all the way up to the end of the fall planting season!

Winter

Get your order in early to reserve your plants for Spring planting!

Once your plant is shipped you’ll receive an automated email with tracking information.
