Orange Strawberry Oxheart Tomato Plant is a German heirloom tomato that produces brilliant orange fruit formed like strawberries and oxhearts. An indeterminate plant, this vigorous vining plant continues to grow until the first hard frost. With a slightly sweet taste, Orange Strawberry Oxheart Tomato Plant, otherwise known as Solanum lycopersicum 'Orange Strawberry’, Tomato Orange Strawberry Oxheart, and Orange Strawberry, yields luscious 8-to-26-ounce fruit within 80 days of planting. Harvest these uniquely shaped tomatoes when they are at least two-thirds ripe; they can be eaten straight off the vine, made into sauces, or canned. Bred by Goodness Grows Edibles, this easy-to-grow cultivar is perfect for any person wanting to bring the freshness of a farmer’s market into a container inside the home or outside in a backyard garden.

Orange Strawberry Oxheart Tomato Plant Care

This heirloom tomato factory thrives when exposed to six hours of full sun. Plant Orange Strawberry Oxheart Tomato Plant during the spring in rich, acidic, well-draining soil. An indeterminate tomato vine, Orange Strawberry Oxheart Tomato Plant should be pruned after the plant becomes established. Remove 6 inches of leaves at the bottom of the plant to improve air circulation, thereby, diminishing the risk of disease. Also, trim all suckers below the first set of flowers and leave only the three branches above to grow.

Growing Orange Strawberry Oxheart Tomato Plant

Orange Strawberry Oxheart Tomato Plant matures in 80 days. Reaching a maximum height of 4 to 8 feet and a spread of 18 to 36 inches, support should be given to this plant via staking or caging early on. If grown indoors, this heirloom prefers bright indirect light.

If planting Orange Strawberry Oxheart Tomato Plant in a container, choose an 18-inch starter pot. This vine makes a great ‘thriller’ in a combination planter. Adding companion filler plants such as basil will not only increase the overall attractiveness of the container but will also add to the store of ingredients in your kitchen.

Watering Orange Strawberry Oxheart Tomato Plant

Similar to other tomato plants, Orange Strawberry Oxheart adores water. Ensure this heirloom tomato vine receives 1 to 2 inches of water weekly.

If you have balanced soil, then feed Orange Strawberry Oxheart Tomato Plant a 4-7-10 fertilizer at the time of planting and monthly thereafter. The higher ratio of phosphorus and potassium to nitrogen will encourage production of fruit versus foliage.
