How the Self-Watering System Works
- Prepare the Liner: Assemble the included LECHUZA irrigation components according to the instructions.
- Add Your Plant: Fill the liner with suitable growing medium, including the appropriate drainage layer, and position your plants.
- Establish the Roots: Water from above initially, usually for approximately 2-3 weeks, while roots establish.
- Use the Reservoir: Once roots reach the moisture zone, add water through the filling system and monitor the water level indicator.
- Monitor and Refill: Check the moisture level and allow appropriate dry periods based on the needs of your plants.
Outdoor Drainage: Remove the overflow screw when needed so excess rainwater can drain. The reservoir reduces manual watering, but watering frequency varies with plant type, sunlight, and weather.
Caring for Natural Eucalyptus Wood
Unlike a plastic wood-look planter, PALO is made from genuine eucalyptus wood. The surface is pre-oiled, but natural wood can gradually change color or develop a weathered gray appearance when exposed to sun, rain, and temperature changes.
To help maintain its appearance, clean the surface gently and treat the wood approximately once a year with a suitable exterior wood oil, following the manufacturer's care instructions.
For outdoor use, place on a stable surface with appropriate drainage and consider storing the planter in a protected location during winter. Natural wood grain, weathering, and minor movement are normal material characteristics.
