The star-shaped flowers of Isotoma Patti’s Pink make it an award-winning star annual for any container or garden. Rising above mounded medium-green foliage, the stunning pink stars on this Isotoma (I. axillaris) appear continuously in summer with little to no fuss. That means no need to deadhead Patti’s Pink or worry too much about how it can handle hot days. Just give it average watering, plenty of sun exposure, and sit back to enjoy.
Growing to about 14 inches high and 10 to 14 inches wide, this Isotoma looks great as a filler in containers, an edge plant around garden beds, or as a large grouping of several plants to fill in with pink star-shaped flowers. Enjoy the nearly 1-inch blooms from the time you plant until the first frost. Isotoma plants are native to Australia, so they thrive in hot climates of zones of 7 through 10,but as an annual only in colder regions.
Patti's Pink Star Flower Care
Choose a spot that gets at least 6 hours of sun a day. If you live in a cooler zone, go ahead and place your Isotoma in one of the sunniest, hottest spots of your patio or landscape. Give the plant plenty of water until it seems established and then water regularly, but not too often. Check to make sure the soil is only slightly damp before adding more water.
When planting an iIsotoma in a container or windowbox, be sure the container drains well. The plant does not need regular feeding. It might benefit from applying an all-purpose fertilizer once soon after planting in spring. Adding more fertilizer during the growing season might force it to grow too large and become invasive, especially in the confines of a container. If you winter the plant over in the landscape or in a container, give it another light feeding the next spring.
Patti's Pink Star Flower Spacing
For a mass planting of Isotoma Patti’s Pink, space each plant about 8 to 12 inches apart from center to center. Give the plant about as much room to grow in a container as you would in the ground and the plant should thrive.
