Large rose-pink flowers give Pink Impression Darwin Hybrid Tulip Bulbs an unmistakable presence in mid-spring beds and borders. The oversized, rounded blooms open in rich pink and deepen as they mature. The substantial flowers are carried on sturdy stems about 20 to 22 inches tall above gray-green foliage. The straight stems and strong coloring also make this selection valuable for cutting and large landscape plantings. 

Introduced in 1979, Pink Impression became an important Darwin Hybrid and later produced several well-known sports in the Impression group. Darwin Hybrids are valued for large flowers, weather-resistant stems, and better repeat-bloom potential than many tulip classes when grown in favorable conditions. Flowering typically occurs from mid-April into May, depending on climate, and the bulbs are hardy in USDA zones 3 to 8. Use Pink Impression through perennial borders, along foundation beds, in cutting gardens, or in large containers where the substantial blooms can be grouped closely.

Pink Impression Darwin Hybrid Tulip Bulbs Care

Plant Pink Impression in fall after soil temperatures cool and before the ground freezes, generally from September through November depending on climate. Grow in full sun to partial shade in well-drained loamy, sandy, or amended clay soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH around 6.0 to 7.0. Set bulbs about 6 to 8 inches deep with the pointed end facing upward.

Water thoroughly after planting, then wait until spring growth appears and water when rainfall is limited and the upper soil begins to dry. Reduce watering as the foliage yellows so dormant bulbs spend summer in drier soil. Apply a balanced bulb fertilizer as shoots emerge in spring, especially when maintaining the planting for repeat bloom.

Deadhead faded flowers but leave the stems and green foliage intact. Wait until the leaves have completely yellowed before removing them so the bulbs have time to replenish their stored energy. If tulip fire appears, remove and discard the entire affected plant, including the bulb, and do not compost the material.

Space bulbs about 4 to 6 inches apart, grouping 10 or more together for a substantial landscape display. For containers, use a pot at least 10 to 12 inches deep with good drainage and enough width for a clustered planting. In colder regions, shelter containers from repeated freeze-thaw cycles and keep the bulbs cold enough for proper flower development.
