Feature
The Pink Nerve Plant or Fittonia albivenis as it is botanically named is a stunning perennial plant, which is usually grown as a houseplant. With a spreading habit, it produces dark-green, ovate leaves with contrasting veins that can be white, red or green. This pink cultivar displays pale-pink veins that distinctly complement the green foliage. Being slightly unusual, the Pink Nerve Plant makes a great gift and is perfect for placing on a table or a shelf due to its compact size.
Best Locations For Growing Pink Nerve Plant
The Pink Nerve Plant is considered non-toxic and will grow in any room as long as it receives the warmth and high humidity it requires.
Pink Nerve Plant Sunlight Requirements
Originating from the topics, the Pink Nerve Plant prefers to grow in diffused or medium light levels, as any direct sunlight can damage the leaves. Near a north- or east-facing window will suit this plant well.
Pink Nerve Plant Care
The Pink Nerve Plant is happiest at 65 - 85 °F and may struggle if temperatures fall below 60 °F. Requiring a humid environment similar to its native habitat, this plant will benefit from being grown in a terrarium, misted regularly, or grown on a tray of wet pebbles or gravel. A warm and steamy bathroom is also an ideal location. Any yellow or dead leaves should be removed at the base of the stem using sharp and sanitized tools. Being relatively slow growing, the Pink Nerve Plant only needs to be re-potted every three years.
Watering Pink Nerve Plant
The Pink Nerve Plant requires soil that is kept constantly moist and will wilt if allowed to dry out. Watering is recommended as soon as the top layer of soil begins to dry out, but be careful not to overwater as this can lead to yellowing leaves.
Feeding Pink Nerve Plant
This plant can benefit from being fed during the growing season. Use a balanced, liquid houseplant fertilizer diluted to half the manufacturer’s recommended strength every 4 to 6 weeks.
