Sky Petunias arguably have some of the most beautiful colors to be developed in the past few years. The intensity of Pink Sky Petunia’s color is vibrant and joyful while the random white speckling of each flower adds movement and interest. No two flowers have the same markings.  The traditional mounded growth habit of Sky Petunias stays fairly compact with minimal deadheading or pinching. From early spring to late fall, Pink Sky Petunia can add wonderfully intense color to all sorts of containers and garden beds.

Petunias have a low, spreading habit that makes a perfect filler or spiller plant in planters and hanging baskets. They also work well as a temporary ground cover for new garden beds. Plant Petunias alongside walkways or stairs to soften hard lines. All sorts of beneficial pollinators (including hummingbirds!) appreciate the easily accessible single flowers.

Pink Sky Petunias Care

Petunias perform best when they are kept well watered and fertilized on a regular schedule. Only allow the top 1-2 inches of soil to dry between waterings. Although Petunias will recover from drying out, repeated stress from drying out can reduce the health of the plant.  Provide well-draining soil in a container or garden bed, which will encourage healthy root development.

Full sun (at least 6 hours each day) is preferred and will keep your Petunias blooming from late spring to first frost in the fall. Deadhead spent flowers on a weekly schedule to promote flower development and keep the overall shape of the plant compact and mounded. Fertilize every 2-3 weeks with a diluted liquid feed such as fish emulsion or seaweed extract. You can also use a plant food made for tomatoes and blooming plants to support blooming.

Petunias can be grown indoors in climates where winter temperatures fall below 45 degrees F. In the fall, cut back the stems to within 8-10 inches of the soil and place the container in the brightest location of your house. Typically, a south-facing window away from drafts and heating vents is best to keep these tender perennials actively growing. Reduce watering frequency to allow for a slowdown in growth over the winter. When the nighttime temperatures are around 50 °F (10 °C) in the spring, Petunias can again grow outdoors.

Pink Sky Petunias Spacing

Petunias can be planted 16-20 inches apart, center on center, to create a lush ground cover. Container-grown plants can be placed much closer together to provide a full look. A 10-inch hanging basket or pot has enough room to keep 3 plants growing vigorously for months.
