Princess Lyla™ Crapemyrtle brings the long bloom season of classic crape myrtles into spaces where larger varieties simply won’t fit. From early summer through fall, soft rose-pink flower clusters cover this compact shrub, creating months of color on a tidy, low mound. The foliage stays dark green through summer, then shifts to glowing gold in fall, adding a second season of interest. Reaching only about 2 feet tall and wide, Lagerstroemia x ‘GA0702’ PPAF is ideal for small gardens, modern landscapes, and container displays. What sets it apart is its ability to bloom heavily without the size, pruning demands, or disease issues of traditional crape myrtles.
Beyond its flowers, Princess Lyla™ is a tough, adaptable plant that thrives in heat and handles dry conditions once established. It is deer resistant, pollinator friendly, and known for good disease resistance, even in humid climates. The naturally bushy growth habit means it keeps its shape without constant trimming. This plant works beautifully as a low edging shrub, in mass plantings for summer color, or as a statement plant in patio containers. It is also a great choice for sunny slopes or hot, reflective areas where many flowering shrubs struggle. We especially recommend Princess Lyla™ as one of our favorite flowering shrubs for full-sun borders where space is limited but impact still matters.
Princess Lyla™ Crapemyrtle Care
Plant Princess Lyla™ Crapemyrtle in full sun for the strongest growth and best flowering, as even light shade can reduce bloom production. Well-drained soil is essential, though this shrub tolerates a wide range of soil types, including poorer or urban soils. Water regularly during the first growing season to establish roots, then reduce watering once established, as the plant is drought tolerant. A light application of a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in spring is usually sufficient. Slightly acidic to neutral soil supports healthy growth and strong foliage color.
Pruning needs are minimal and best done in early spring once new growth begins to show. Light trimming or cutting back spent flower clusters after the first flush can encourage reblooming later in the season. Avoid heavy summer pruning, as flowers form on new growth and excessive trimming can limit blooms. In colder areas within its hardiness range, winter dieback may occur, but the plant reliably regrows and flowers on new stems.
Princess Lyla™ Crapemyrtle Spacing
Space Princess Lyla™ Crapemyrtle about 2 feet apart when planting in rows or mass plantings to allow plants to fill in without crowding. For edging, this spacing creates a neat, continuous line of foliage and flowers. When grown in containers, start with a pot that is at least 12 to 14 inches wide with good drainage. As the plant matures, it can remain in the same container for several years with occasional soil refreshment.

?
"Blooms on" tells you which stems produce flowers, which decides when it's safe to prune.
- New Wood: Flowers form on stems that grow this season. Prune in late winter or early spring without losing blooms.
- Old Wood: Flower buds form on last year's stems. Prune right after flowering. Pruning in fall or early spring removes next year's blooms.
- Both New and Old Wood: Blooms on last year's stems and again on new growth, so it flowers even after a hard winter or a mistimed pruning. Prune lightly after the first flush of blooms.
