The feathery, fluffy fronds of the Asparagus Fern or Asparagus densiflorus 'sprengeri' add texture and greenery to a space. Small white flowers bloom during the summer, but this plant is grown for the frilly foliage, and the blooms are rather insignificant. This plant is a vigorous grower that quickly spreads and reaches.

This plant makes an impressive planting on its own and can be featured in a landscape. Combine the dense foliage with other plants to create a striking combination planting. The delicate, needle-like foliage spreads when grown in the ground and serves as a ground cover. Place this mounded spiller in a container or hanging basket, and the lace-like fronds will gently cascade over the edge and hang down.

Proven Accents® Asparagus Fern Care

Plant Asparagus Fern in partial, dabbled light. Intense, direct sunlight can burn the delicate foliage when grown outdoors. This plant can live in low-quality soil but use a well-draining, rich, slightly acidic soil mix for best results. As a fern, this plant thrives with increased humidity and will need water when the top layer of the soil dries out.

Asparagus Fern is a fast grower, especially when grown outdoors in warm, humid climates. Prune the plant to keep the fern bushy and compact or let the long stems grow and extend. This fern is grown as an annual in most areas. Bring this green beauty inside for the winter because it can easily live as a houseplant. Place in bright indirect light while inside, mist the leaves daily, and the soil should be consistently damp.

Proven Accents® Asparagus Fern Spacing

Asparagus Fern will grow 12 to 24 inches tall and 10 to 14 inches across. Space ferns 10 to 14 inches apart when used in a landscape or grow one plant in a large container.
