Looking for a more sophisticated feel? Proven Accents® Glacier Ivy Hedera helix is that simple yet formal beauty you have been looking for. This English Ivy has truly superb foliage interest. With exemplary green and gray multicolored leaves, highlighted with creamy yellow leaf margins, Hedera makes a big statement. It has a luscious trailing habit that can be enjoyed all spring and summer long.
Native to Northern Europe and parts of Asia, English Ivy is tough and drought tolerant. Its adaptability and beauty can be enjoyed all over the landscape. Scaling up the sides of buildings or carpeting sloped hillsides, Hedera Glacier is a low maintenance charmer. This plant does well as a houseplant too. It takes on the spiller role in container culture or it can be enjoyed as a stand alone specimen along a patio walkway. This English Ivy looks phenomenal as a topiary display strewn with twinkling white fairy lights. It is sure to to make magical moments!
Proven Accents® Glacier Ivy Care
Widely versatile, Hedra can withstand either full sun to full shade. There is no deadheading needed, since there are no flowers. Keep this plant compact and bushy by trimming it back from time to time. Ensure that soil stays evenly moist and well draining. Hedra does prefer average fertile soil, but typically a light feeding of fertilizer or compost annually will do the trick in garden beds. In containers, apply regular fertilizer applications to create more luscious growth. Be aware that this plant is toxic to pets, especially if kept as an indoor houseplant.
Hardy to zones 5 to 9, Hedra is a perennial. Like any English Iv,y it can tolerate cold temperatures, and it will overwinter outdoors fairly well. Bring this plant inside to enjoy its foliage in winter months. When indoors, keep it away from registers and vents. The excess heat and low humidity can cause leaves to brown.
Proven Accents® Glacier Ivy Spacing
Leave at least a 10 to 14 inch space between adjacent plants when planting in the landscape or in a container. Use at least an 8 inch container when planting Hedera as a house plant.
