The frosty, felted foliage of the Licorice plant has endeared it to garden designers and home gardeners who have a keen eye for texture. The Proven Accents® Licorice Splash Licorice Plant adds a splash of creamy variegation to the mix to make it a top contender for “Best Foliage.” Plus, the Licorice Splash features a chartreuse shade that offers a punch of brightness to hanging baskets, beds, borders and containers. Plant your licorice plant in an area that gets over four hours of sunlight per day and get rewarded with lush, compact growth.
The Licorice Splash Licorice Plant grows up to 12” high and has a spread of up to 18”, making it the perfect “filler” plant in containers, and a lovely foliage plant in the landscape. The upright growth habit is also bushy and compact, which can look lovely in window boxes and perennial borders. Plus, licorice plants are heat and drought tolerant, so they are low maintenance options for containers and beds in hot, dry locations.
Proven Accents Licorice Splash Licorice Plant Care
Licorice Plants are very low-maintenance annuals and the Proven Accents® Licorice Splash variety is no different. They require no deadheading and can withstand hot, dry conditions. They don’t require consistent fertilizing or watering. However, it is important to water them anytime the top 1-2” of soil is dry to the touch. Make sure you don’t overwater. Licorice plants don’t like soggy soil, and their roots can rot if they are overwatered.
Proven Accents Licorice Splash Licorice Plant Spacing
Give your licorice plant a little more room to grow in a garden bed than in a container. When planting in a garden bed, plant up to 18” apart. When planting into containers, baskets or window boxes, plant them closer together. They can be planted as close as 6” apart in these containers.
