- Height 3-5 Inches
- Width 12-15 Inches
- Use as a filler when using in containers
- Grown for beautiful foliage but with added bonus of red flowers!
Dime-size rosy red blossoms dot bright green and white variegated leaves on this distinctive trailing annual. Grown primarily as a foliage plant, the red frilly daisy-like flowers are an added bonus. Highly heat and drought tolerant, Mezoo Livingstone Daisy makes a great addition to a terrace, rock wall, container garden or landscape.
Native to South Africa, Zones 10a through 11b, Mezoo thrives in full sun, and loves warm summer days. Even in its native habitat it is a tender perennial, closing up shop when the temperatures go below 40 degrees, and reappearing when the warmth returns. Unlike other Livingstone daisies, Mezoo does not close its blossoms when it is cloudy. In Zones 3-9, plant Mezoo when the danger of the last frost is passed. It will start blooming in early summer and last until the first frost.
Proven Accents Mezoo Trailing Red Livingstone Daisy Care
This unusual annual requires very little intervention from you aside from providing it an optimal location to meet its needs. It tolerates poor soil and hot locations. It is cold sensitive so a full sun location is important. Watering is needed only when it is extremely dry, then water thoroughly. Give it a location with well draining soil as it does not like wet feet. It is typically not bothered by insects or plant diseases.
Deadheading is not required, but if you would like it to produce more blooms for you, pinching the existing blossoms will result in an increased production. Prune only to control length. This plant does not easily survive as a houseplant, but if you have a greenhouse, it can be overwintered if you meet its temperature requirements of over 40 degrees.
Proven Accents Mezoo Trailing Red Livingstone Daisy Spacing
Spacing is important as this annual will spread out and trail more than it grows upright. Maturing at about 3 to 5 inches tall and spreading 12 to 15 inches wide, give it 12 to 15 inches of space between plants to accommodate that spread. You will be pleased if you use this in a container, terrace or rock wall as it has a pleasing trailing habit.
