First, there are the fuzzy leaves that beg to be touched, just waiting to create almost unlimited texture and color combinations. Sage-green leaf tops reverse to lambs-ear gray, the rounded leaves resembling beech leaves. Those fuzzy leaves are a giveaway that White Licorice (a Helichrysum petiolare cultivar) is quite xeric, or drought-tolerant, and can make it through the hottest summers. Licorice plants ask very little in the way of care. They need very little fertilizer, perhaps just at planting. Well-drained soil is preferred. They do resent over-watering, so don’t place in a too shady or wet location.
